The Osun State Police Command has confirmed the death of Adeyemi
Adewale, a 29-year-old football player from the Ilesa West Local
Government team, who collapsed during the Adeleke Memorial Cup final in
Osogbo yesterday.
The match was being held at the Ataoja School of Science when the incident
occurred.
According to the police spokesperson Yemisi Opalola, Adewale was
immediately rushed to the Osun State University Teaching Hospital but was
pronounced dead upon arrival.
She added that the player’s remains have been deposited at the hospital
morgue, and an investigation into the cause of death is underway.
The tragic event has cast a shadow over the football competition, leaving
participants and spectators in mourning.
Authorities are expected to release further details as investigations progress.
