Nigeria, Brazil Launch $1.1B Green Imperative Project 

Nigeria and Brazil have officially launched the commercial phase of the $1.1 billion Green Imperative Project (GIP) to enhance food security and boost private-sector investment in Nigeria’s agriculture sector.

According to theSenior Special Assistant to the President on Media & Communications (Office of the Vice President), Stanley Nkwocha, the initiative, which is Africa’s largest agricultural project, focuses on developing sustainable, low-carbon farming to improve food production efficiency. 

Vice President Kashim Shettima described the agreement as a crucial step in President Bola Tinubu’s agenda for food security and economic growth.

He emphasized that the GIP would create structural conditions to boost agricultural productivity, integrate small-scale farmers into the value chain, and reinforce investor confidence.

Meanwhile, Brazil’s Ambassador to Nigeria, Carlos Garcete, spotlighted Brazil’s longstanding negotiations with Nigeria to secure financing for the project, which will facilitate the importation of farming equipment and the local assembly of machinery using Nigerian labor.
