Emir of Kano call off Eid Durbar as Federal Government Declares Public Holidays 

The 15th Emir of Kano, Alhaji Aminu Bayero, has called off this year’s Eid-el-Fitr Durbar celebration due to security concerns in the state.

Speaking at his Nasarawa Mini Palace last night, he emphasized that peace and unity among the people were more important than the event

The Emir who had planned to hold the Durbar to mark his fifth anniversary on the throne, said he took the advice of Islamic clerics, elders, and stakeholders to prioritize stability.

He urged Kano residents to focus on family visits and observe the festival activities peacefully while praying for Allah’s blessings during Ramadan. 

Meanwhile, the Federal Government has declared March 31 and April 1 as public holidays for the Eid-el-Fitr celebration.

Minister of Interior, Dr. Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, revealed this in a statement made by the Permanent Secretary, Magdalene Ajani.

He also congratulated Muslims on completing Ramadan. 

Zimbabwe’s President Appoints Army Chief as Sports Minister 

Zimbabwe’s President, Emmerson Mnangagwa, has appointed former army chief Anselem Sanyatwe as the new Sports Minister after retiring him from military service.

The position became vacant following Kirsty Coventry’s election as President of the International Olympic Committee.

Sanyatwe’s removal from the military comes amid growing political tensions ahead of the 2028 general elections.

In recent months, Mnangagwa has also changed the heads of the police and intelligence service, further fueling speculation about internal power struggles.
