Yesterday witnessed an outpouring of tears as the late former governor of Ondo State, Rotimi Akeredolu’s remains arrived in Nigeria from Germany, where he passed away on December 26, 2023.
The poignant moment unfolded at Murtala International Airport in Lagos State, where the corpse, draped in the Nigerian flag, was solemnly lowered from the plane at approximately 3:39 pm. According to a post on PUNCH Newspaper, confirmation of the arrival came from the former Chief Press Secretary to the late governor, Olabode Olatunde.
Present to receive the late governor’s remains were members of his grieving family, including his wife, Chief Betty Anyanwu-Akeredolu, children, and siblings, led by Prof. Wole Akeredolu. They were joined by some of his political allies, including the Lagos State Governor’s representative, Mr. Tayo Ayinde; Ogun State Governor’s representative, Mr. Tokunbi Talabi; and the representative of Osun State Governor, Senator Demola Adeleke.
Other dignitaries in attendance included the Ondo State Chairman of the All Progressives Congress, Ade Adetimehin; House of Representatives member, Gboyega Adefarati, and some members of the Ondo State Executive Council, led by the Secretary to the State Government, Princess Oladunni Odu.
The remains have been reported to be in the morgue, with burial arrangements expected to be announced by the family in due course.
