Rivers Assembly Moves to Impeach Governor Fubara

Political tension is heightened in Rivers State as the state House of Assembly, led by Speaker Martin Amaewhule initiated impeachment proceedings against Governor Siminalayi Fubara and his deputy, Prof. Ngozi Odu.

The Assembly, in a notice signed by 26 lawmakers, accused the governor of gross misconduct, including unconstitutional expenditure and obstruction of legislative duties.

The lawmakers also alleged that Fubara appointed officials without Assembly confirmation and withheld funds meant for the legislature.

The deputy governor was similarly accused of complicity in these actions.

President Bola Tinubu, who has earlier waded into the growing crisis, while emphasizing the importance of stability in the Niger Delta, urged stakeholders to intervene and ensure peace.
