President Bola Tinubu has praised the National Assembly for approving the State of Emergency in Rivers State, calling it a “patriotic decision” aimed at protecting residents and critical infrastructure.
In a statement yesterday, his Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, commended Senate President Godswill Akpabio, Speaker Tajudeen Abbas, and other lawmakers for prioritizing national stability over partisan interests.
Tinubu emphasized that the crisis in Rivers had reached a dangerous tipping point, posing threats to vital oil and gas assets and undermining the nation’s economy.
The emergency measure, he said, is a necessary step to prevent further escalation and restore democratic accountability.
Following classified security briefings detailing governance paralysis and rising tensions, lawmakers ratified the emergency rule, which will last for six months.
The president expressed confidence that the newly appointed Sole Administrator will address systemic failures and foster dialogue among conflicting factions.
While the move has sparked political debate, Tinubu reassured Nigerians that his administration remains committed to national stability and economic resilience.
He urged all stakeholders to support ongoing efforts to restore normalcy in Rivers State, reaffirming that the intervention is temporary but essential for long-term peace and development.
