US passenger plane, military helicopter collide near Washington DC

An American Airlines flight from Wichita, Kansas, collided mid-air with a Black Hawk helicopter near Ronald Reagan Washington National Airport, sending both aircraft into the Potomac River.

The plane carried 60 passengers and four crew members, while three soldiers were aboard the helicopter.

Authorities have recovered 19 bodies so far, and the US Figure Skating Association confirmed that several members of the skating community were among the passengers.  US President Donald Trump, after being briefed on what he described as a terrible accident, questioned why the helicopter had not maneuvered to avoid the collision.
