Nigerian Military Vows to Crush Terrorists Amid Surge in Attacks

The Defence Headquarters (DHQ) has reaffirmed its commitment to
defeating terrorists and their collaborators, particularly in the North-East.
Addressing a press conference in Abuja yesterday, DHQ spokesman Major
General Edward Buba attributed the recent spike in attacks in Borno State to
an influx of foreign fighters from the Sahel region and the activities of local
collaborators acting as informants.
He assured Nigerians that the military remains steadfast in ensuring a secure
nation.

General Buba acknowledged recent attacks in Damboa, Chibok, and Gwoza
and highlighted the ambush of troops in Baga, where soldiers were targeted
while recovering the bodies of 40 residents killed by insurgents.
Additionally, six soldiers were reportedly killed in a recent raid by Islamic
State-linked terrorists on a military base in Borno.
Despite these challenges, General Buba stressed the military’s vigilance and
resolve in combating insurgency.
He noted that local collaborators who provide information on troop
movements worsen the security situation, but the military remains resolute in
addressing the threat.
