Zimbabwe Officially Applies to Join BRICS, Seeks Stronger Economic Partnerships

Zimbabwe has formally submitted its application to join the BRICS group, with the country’s Foreign Minister Amon Murwira announcing the move during a visit to Moscow yesterday.

Speaking alongside Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov, Murwira noted Zimbabwe’s commitment to meeting the membership requirements of the BRICS bloc, which includes Brazil, Russia, India, China, and South Africa.

He described BRICS as a vital platform for economic cooperation, emphasizing its foundation on principles of mutual respect and sovereign equality of nations.

Murwira stated that Zimbabwe would greatly benefit from participating in such a system, which aligns with the country’s values of human interaction and progress.

The Foreign Minister confirmed that Zimbabwe is in the process of aligning with BRICS’ conditions and is awaiting the group’s internal consensus on the application.

Zimbabwe’s bid reflects its strategic aim to strengthen its global partnerships and boost economic ties within the expanding BRICS alliance.
