The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has uncovered fraudulent practices through which tertiary institutions admit students into their programmes.
During a news conference in Abuja, JAMB’s spokesman, Fabian Benjamin, warned tertiary institutions against the perpetration of such acts. He disclosed that the board has witnessed an alarming rise in false affidavits and an increase in age adjustments on national identification slips being submitted to the examination body to alter recorded ages.
Benjamin revealed that the Board has directed tertiary institutions to disclose all candidates illegally admitted before 2017 starting from August 1, 2024. He emphasized that admissions allegedly given before 2017 will no longer be recognized or condoned unless disclosed within this one-month window.
While reiterating that the current minimum age for admissions remains 16, Benjamin warned that JAMB will no longer entertain the absorption of illegal admissions or pardon such admissions without a registration number.
