Reps Summons Minister For Environment Over Persistent Erosion, Flooding

The Chairman of the House of Representatives Committee on Environment, Hon Pondi Gbabojor, has again summoned the Minister of Environment and the Director General of the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA), Mrs. Zubaida Abubakar Umar to appear at its next sitting or face sanctions.

She is was expected to show up yesterday at a public hearing by the committee but failed to attend the congress meeting.

The hearing was planned to address the devastating issues of valley erosion, persistent flooding, and deforestation that plague many communities in Nigeria, especially in Anambra, Bayelsa, Delta, Lagos, Ondo, Kano and Bauchi State.

Gbabojor directed the clerk of the committee to write to NEMA boss, noting that such attitude would no longer be condoned.
